People often ask me at Vintage shows what I collect and I can never answer since so much of what I collect is just based on if I like it. But, one thing I can say that I do collect is photos of the inside of people's houses.

 I love finding vintage photos of interiors of houses with no one in the picture. It is kind of rare. I mean have you ever taken a picture of your living room or bedroom with no one in it? Most people haven't. I recommend it. I would love to have pictures of the house I grew up in now. Especially my bedroom, where no photos of people were ever taken. I got these recently at the last Webfooters club meeting. This one below looks like maybe from the early 1940's? I'm not sure, but I love the plants and the wicker. Looks like a magazine layout.

  This one is most likely from the early 1900's. I love find photos like this that show the way people showed off the photos and postcards that I now collect. This looks like it may be the bedroom.

homebody

I spent most of the weekend home. I love being home. I am a total homebody. I mostly worked, cleaning and organizing. Still, it was great, especially with the windows open and the sound and the smell of the rain outside.

My love of being home is one of the reasons I like this 8x10 photograph in my collection so much. I also really love seeing the insides of people's houses in old photographs and the forties are one of my favorite times for designs and textiles. This photograph looks like it was taken in the late 40's or early 50's. Unfortunately there is no writing on the back. Click to see bigger image.

Welcome to my new blog, The Cedar Chest.

I have been a collector of vintage ephemera and photos for 15+ years. It is a pretty big part of me and yet I don't really comment about it that much. I wanted a place where I could share the images that are my favorites and also the vintage ephemera I am selling in my online Etsy shop, The Cedar Chest.

So, I am starting the posts off with some choice items I have tacked up (magnet board, actually) in my den. Some are new things that I put up there for a while so I can enjoy and some have been up for a long time.

Here is an image of a Victorian room. I have long been attracted to images of houses and have collected many. I have used some of them for my zine of house fictions, Current Resident.

It is somewhat rare to find images of houses without people in front of them, but it is even harder to find images of house interiors with no one in them. For a while now these have been something I have been interested in. Oh, how I wish I had images of the house I grew up in like this. Why didn't we think to do that!



I am looking forward to sharing more images with you, maybe even some from my past! I have lots of great old slides I have been scanning.
